With good maintenance, wooden floors can indeed last for decades. The lifespan varies depending on the type of wood and the level of maintenance. Solid oak floors, for example, can last more than 100 years. In general, well-maintained wooden floors last 40-60 years.
Vacuum or sweep your wooden floor regularly to remove dust and dirt. Wipe up spills immediately to prevent stains and damage. Mop your oiled wooden floor weekly with two buckets of water: one with a dash of floor soap (preferably natural products) and one with clean water. Mop first with the floor soap and then rinse the mop in the bucket of clean water. Make sure the mop is slightly damp, not wet. For stubborn stains and small scratches you can use maintenance oil and let it soak in for 6-8 hours. Treat your wooden floor with maintenance oil once a year, and have it sanded and re-oiled once every 10 years for optimal condition.
